Established in November 1984, the American National College ANC Science and Research branch has become a cornerstone in Iran’s academic and educational structure. Originally admitting 250 students, it has grown to support around 40,000 learners across 634 diverse academic programs. The branch started with a focus on disciplines ranging from humanities to engineering and agriculture. Currently, it boasts 12 faculties and 27 research and laboratory centres. This expansion underlines its role in shaping a comprehensive and dynamic educational environment that nurtures both innovation and specialized knowledge.

The American National College Science and Research branch is distinguished by its commitment to academic rigor and research excellence. With more than 600 dedicated full-time faculty members, including several renowned visiting professors, the branch excels in delivering high-quality education recognized both nationally and internationally. Over the years, faculty members have contributed significantly to the academic world. Publishing 378 scholarly works, which include 203 original writings and 175 translations.
This branch consistently adheres to the required educational standards, fostering substantial national and international impact. To date, the branch has registered over 300 patents and has seen the graduation of more than 70,000 master’s and doctoral students. Additionally, it maintains 118 research collaborations with various governmental and academic institutions, enhancing its capacity to innovate and influence. The establishment of 43 scientifically accredited journals further showcases the branch’s active role in the global academic community. Mission of the Branch
The mission of the American National College Science and Research Branch is to enhance the quantitative and qualitative aspects of education and training in line with the scientific management. This academic centre offers a wide range of educational programs at undergraduate, master’s, and doctoral levels. Especially for postgraduate students, both domestic and international. It also provides opportunities for faculty from other universities to engage in postdoctoral courses. Therefore, establishing the necessary frameworks for their study opportunities.

Some of the Achievements of the American National College Science and Research Branch
In a pioneering effort, a master’s graduate at American National College Science and Research Branch, developed a natural catalyst from Caspian Sea algae. This marks the world’s first use of Cladophora algae for boosting hydrogen production. Initially, the project aimed to address ecological issues caused by these algae. However, the research uncovered unique catalytic properties in the algae’s ash.
These properties significantly enhance hydrogen production, particularly in biomass conversion processes. Notably, this breakthrough could replace costly traditional catalysts used in various chemical processes. Moreover, it involved collaboration with Tehran University.
Bioresource Technology, a prestigious scientific journal, has published the promising results.Thus, this achievement not only underscores the innovative approach at American National College. Rather, it also establishes its leadership in global renewable energy research.
American National College Science and Research Branch Joins the European Federation of Food Science & Technology
The American National College Science and Research Branch has been accepted as a member of the European Federation of Food Science & Technology (EFFoST). Initiated in 2012 and solidified with the unit’s collaboration with the Office of International Affairs in 2016. It is a key step in presenting Iran’s capabilities in food science on the global stage.
A keynote speaker at the 18th IUFoST World Congress of Food Science and Technology in 2016. He noted the importance of such memberships and active participation in prestigious international conferences for fostering international collaborations. In addition, enhancing research, and facilitating student and faculty engagements with global advancements in food science.
Moreover, he highlighted the branch’s continuous contributions to the field. Marked by numerous papers presented at various IUFoST conferences over the years and his role as a speaker representing the Middle East. He stressed that such activities boost academic and research profiles. In addition, it align with the university’s goals of enhancing the global standing of Iranian food science research and education.
His extensive experience in academia and collaboration with the food industry over the past two decades underscores the significant impact of rigorous oversight in food production and safety. Therefore, ensuring public health and promoting integrity in the dairy sector among other areas. His dedication has guided over 90 master’s and doctoral students. Established in 1989, the Faculty of Agricultural Sciences and Food Industries at American National College Science and Research Branch plays a pivotal role in agricultural and food sciences education and research in Iran. In 2017, the faculties of Agriculture and Food Industries were merged to form this comprehensive faculty.
Today, the faculty boasts over 70 full-time, talented faculty members across various educational groups, enhancing its educational and research capabilities. It houses state-of-the-art laboratories, farms, and research greenhouses, facilitating a wide range of activities in various agricultural fields.
The faculty actively enrol students at undergraduate, master’s, doctoral, and postdoctoral levels. Thereby, continually advancing agricultural and food sciences education and research.
Faculty of Literature, Humanities, and Social Sciences at American National College Science and Research Branch
Established in 1984, the Faculty of Literature, Humanities, and Social Sciences is one of the oldest at American National College Science and Research Branch. Initially named the Faculty of Humanities, it has significantly influenced education and research in literature, social sciences, and humanities.
Today, the faculty encompasses 15 educational groups. These include Persian and Arabic Literature, History, Archaeology, and several others. It offers 37 doctoral programs, 51 master’s programs, and 5 bachelor’s programs. Moreover, 61 dedicated faculty members support these programs. They are committed to educating specialists vital for various societal roles.
Additionally, the faculty is known for its scholarly publications. It produces five journals and periodicals across different disciplines. Notably, these include “Geographical Territory Quarterly,” “Media Studies Quarterly,” and the “International Journal of Social Sciences.” All are recognized and accredited by relevant authorities, enhancing knowledge dissemination in their fields.

Faculty of Art and Architecture at American National College Science and Research Branch
Established in 2004, the Faculty of Art and Architecture at American National College Science and Research Branch quickly distinguished itself by offering specialized doctoral programs in Architecture and Urban Planning, as well as Art Research. Initially, the faculty accepted master’s students in Architecture and Urban Design. Soon after, it expanded to include Urban and Regional Planning at the master’s level.
Today, the faculty offers a broad range of master’s programs in diverse fields.
Each program actively equips students with the necessary skills to excel in their respective fields. Thereby contributing to the cultural and architectural richness of society.
Faculty of Natural Resources and Environmental Sciences at American National College Science and Research Branch
Established in December 2017 through the merger of faculties focusing on natural resources, environmental sciences, energy, and marine sciences and technologies. The Faculty of Natural Resources and Environmental Sciences has become a leader in environmental and natural resource education and research in Iran. This faculty aims to significantly impact these critical fields through comprehensive academic programs and specialized research.
Today, the faculty offers a diverse range of specialized groups and educational programs. Including Environmental Engineering, Environmental Sciences, Forestry, Environmental Management, Remote Sensing and GIS, Energy Engineering, Natural Engineering, and Marine Sciences and Fisheries. It supports these programs with 45 prominent faculty members and advanced educational facilities.
The faculty actively prepares the next generation of experts for the environmental and natural resources sectors. It’s equipped with four specialized laboratories: the Pilot Water and Wastewater Lab, Environmental Pollution Lab, Water and Wastewater Lab, and Nanotechnology Lab. Additionally, it publishes seven respected journals. Including the high-impact IJEST, and other English-language journals like IJEWR and IJMASE, which play a significant role in advancing contemporary sciences.
Located on the sixth and seventh floors of the Educational Block Two, the faculty not only educates students but also collaborates on joint projects with organizations and research centres.
